Free fire drill social story with pictures
A fire drill is loud and sudden, and a short picture story read ahead of time can help a student know what will happen. This free story walks through the alarm, covering ears if it is too loud, lining up, waiting outside and going back in.

Make your own in seconds
Ask for a story about any situation (a substitute teacher, a field trip, a haircut, a new classroom) and SCAFLI writes it with a picture for each line.
Try asking for:
- “a social story about a substitute teacher”
SCAFLI is in early access. The free PDF above needs no sign-up.
What it is
A short first-person story with one sentence and one picture per panel. It says what happens, what other people often feel, and what the student can try to do.
How to use it
- Read it together a few days before a planned drill, and again that morning.
- Practice the parts you can: covering ears, lining up, walking with the class.
- Read it again after the drill and talk about what went well.
Three quick tips
- Read it when the student is calm, not during the drill.
- Keep a copy where the student can look at it on their own.
- Add a photo of your own school's safe spot if you can.
Questions
- When should we read it?
- A few times before a planned drill works well, and again afterward to talk about how it went.
- Can I change the words?
- Yes. SCAFLI pages can be edited, and you can ask for your school's own steps.
- Can I get a story about something else?
- Yes. Ask for a story about a substitute teacher, a field trip or another change, and you get one in the same style.
