Free WH Questions Worksheet with Pictures (Farm Scene)

This farm scene is for 1st graders and students who can’t read the answers yet, in speech therapy or the classroom. Look at the picture together, read each question out loud, and the student circles the picture that answers it. Each question has its own color and symbol for what, where, when and who.

WH Questions: At the Farm. A farm picture with a farmer, a cow, a girl, a tractor, a pig and a fence, then five questions (what, where, when, who, what), each with three picture answers to circle.

What it is

A picture worksheet for practicing what, where, when and who questions. Every answer is a picture with its word under it, so a student who is not reading yet can still answer by pointing or circling.

How to use it

  1. Talk about the farm picture together first.
  2. Read one question out loud and let the student point to an answer before circling it.
  3. Fill in how many were right and how many cues it took at the bottom.

Three quick tips

  • Start with what and who. They are often easier than when.
  • Point back to the part of the picture that answers the question.
  • Use the cue line to see over time how much help was needed.

Questions

Can students who don’t read use it?
Yes. Every answer has a picture, so students can point or circle without reading.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. SCAFLI makes the teacher key with the page. This free PDF is the student page.
Can I get a different scene?
Yes. Ask for the zoo, the beach, the park or the playground, and you get a new picture with new questions.
