I Am Thankful has four sentence starters that ask for a reason, not just a name (a person, a thing, a place, and something I can do, each with because), then eight cards to cut out, write on and hang on a class or family gratitude tree.

A gratitude page for November and Thanksgiving week, for the classroom, a speech group working on because sentences, or the family table.
How to use it
- Talk about one thing you are thankful for, and why, before writing.
- Finish each sentence with a reason after because.
- Cut out the cards, write one thing on each, and hang them on a paper tree.
Three quick tips
- Let children draw instead of write when writing is hard.
- Model a full answer first: I am thankful for my sister because she plays with me.
- Add a card each day of the week before Thanksgiving.
Questions
- What age is it for?
- Kindergarten to third grade. Children who don't write yet can draw or tell.
- Does it work for speech therapy?
- Yes. The because sentences are good practice for giving a reason and using longer sentences.
- Can we use it at home?
- Yes. The cards work well on a family gratitude tree or at the Thanksgiving table.
