Free first-then board with pictures, for AAC users

A first-then board with pictures lets a student who uses AAC see the plan without many words: first this, then that, then all done. The free set has two ready boards and a page of picture pieces to cut out (work pieces in green, choices in blue), so you can build any first-then.

Two first-then boards: First, a bath picture, an arrow, Then, a book picture, and an All done bar, with a cut line between them. A second page has green and blue picture pieces to cut out.

What it is

A two-step visual with a picture for each step and an All done spot. The pieces page lets you swap in other activities, so one board covers many parts of the day.

How to use it

  1. Show the board before the first step starts, and point as you say it: first bath, then book.
  2. When the first step is done, move its piece to All done.
  3. Give the then right away, every time.

Three quick tips

  • Use pictures the student already knows.
  • Keep the first step short at the start.
  • Let the student choose the then piece when they can.

Questions

Can the student move the pieces?
Yes. Laminate the board and pieces and add sticky dots, so pieces can move to All done.
Is there a version without pictures?
Yes. Ask for a words-only first-then and you get the same board with words.
Can I make my own pairs?
Yes. Tell SCAFLI the two steps and it puts a picture with each.

A starting point for your own professional judgment. Use initials only on any page about a student.
