What it is

A step-by-step visual for one routine. Each step is a row with a number, a picture, a few words and a box to check when it is done.

How to use it

  1. Hang it at the sink, at the student's eye level.
  2. Point to each step as the student does it, with as few words as you can.
  3. Let the student check the box, then fade your pointing over time.

Three quick tips

  • Laminate it and use a dry-erase marker so it can be used every day.
  • Use the same steps and words every time.
  • Practice when there is no rush, not only right before lunch.

Questions

Can I add or change steps?
Yes. Type the steps you use and SCAFLI puts a picture with each one.
Does it work at home too?
Yes. The same page works at a classroom sink or a bathroom at home.
Can I make one for getting dressed?
Yes. Ask for getting dressed steps, or any other routine, and you get the same kind of page.

A starting point for your own professional judgment. Use initials only on any page about a student.
