What you can do together

  • Picture books to read together

Short read-aloud books for ages 2 to 7, in English and Spanish, with talk questions on every page and a note for grown-ups.

  • Talk-and-play games

Say a word (or sign it, or tap it) to make the rocket fly or the door open. Lots of turns to talk, no sensory overload.

  • Routines with pictures

Morning, bedtime, first-then and calm-down steps your child can see. Print one for the fridge or keep it on your phone.

  • “Is their talking on track?”

What many children say and understand at each age, in plain words (it is not a test), and when to talk to your doctor or a speech therapist.

Why I built SCAFLI

Every student has different needs: more support, references, communication boards, modifications, or a routine they can count on.

Teachers, SLPs, special educators and families know how to help and support them, but don't always have the time and resources to make it all happen.

That's why I built SCAFLI. Research-informed supports, ready in minutes and easy to share, so every student has the materials, language and access they need to learn, communicate and build life skills. Wherever their day takes them, the right support can go with them.

Questions parents ask

Will a talk board stop my child from talking?

No. Research on picture boards and talking devices has not found that they stop children from learning to talk, and many children say more words once they have another way to get their message across. A board takes the pressure off, so talking can grow. If your child already sees a speech therapist, they can help you pick the words to start with.

Does it replace speech therapy?

No. SCAFLI is something to use at home, on top of therapy. If you have a speech therapist, they can send you practice that opens on your phone. If you're worried about how your child is talking, talk to your doctor or a speech therapist.

Do I need an account to open a board someone sent me?

No. A board or practice link from your child's teacher or therapist opens right on your phone with no account. You can print it or keep it.

Do I type my child's name?

Never. Say what would help (“a morning routine for my 6 year old”) and leave names out. Boards stay on your device.

Does it work on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It's made for phones first, and works on an iPad or a computer too. Anything can also be printed.
