Free executive functioning checklist for middle and high school

A daily checklist that walks a student through the parts of the school day that trip them up: getting started, breaking big tasks into steps, writing down what's due, and packing the right things at the end of the day. A second page breaks one task into small steps.

My Daily Checklist: rows for start of class, during class, end of day and materials, a box for each school day, and a goal for the week.

What it is

A reusable executive functioning support for organization, task initiation and planning, for students in grades 6 to 12.

How to use it

  1. Go through the rows together on Monday and cross out any that don't fit.
  2. Have the student check boxes as they go, not at the end of the day.
  3. On Friday, look at the empty boxes together and pick one to work on next week.

Three quick tips

  • Keep it in the front of the binder or on the desk.
  • Praise the checks, and treat empty boxes as information.
  • Fade it once the habits stick.
