Free WH questions picture scene: The zoo

Look at the picture of the zoo together, read each question out loud, and the student circles the picture that answers it. Every answer has a picture, so students who are not reading yet can answer by pointing. Each question word has its own color and symbol.

WH Questions: At the Zoo. A zoo picture with a giraffe, an elephant, a lion, a monkey, a boy and a girl with a balloon, then five questions each with three picture answers to circle.

Make your own in seconds

Ask for another scene (the park, the beach, the farm, the store), another grade, or an AAC version to point to, and SCAFLI makes it with a key.

What it is

A picture scene with five questions (what, where, when, who and what again), each with three picture answers to circle, and a line at the bottom for correct answers and cues.

How to use it

  1. Talk about the picture together before any questions.
  2. Read one question at a time and let the student point before circling.
  3. Write how many were right and how many cues it took at the bottom.

Three quick tips

  • Start with what and who. They are often easier than when.
  • Point back to the part of the picture that answers the question.
  • Use the same scene again later to see what changed.

Questions

Can students who can't read use it?
Yes. Every answer is a picture with its word, so students can point or circle.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. SCAFLI makes the key with the page. This free PDF is the student page.
Can I get kindergarten questions?
Yes. Ask for the zoo for kindergarten and the questions are simpler.

A starting point for your own professional judgment. Use initials only on any page about a student.
